CCI Club Yoga Room
1400 sq ft | completed | Mumbai, India
Studio Trace conceived the lighting design for the CCI Yoga Room as being wholly indirect - to mitigate glare and prevent discomfort to the yoga practitioners who were across a spectrum of ages.
Studio Trace worked closely with the architects at Studio Hinge to design custom made wooden ellipses fixtures that encompass the mirrored columns. Inspired by the undulating curves of the ceiling, these wooden ellipses appear to be lightly suspended in space - complementing the interior design while providing comforting glare-free light to the practitioners below.
As the sun sets, the lights become deeper, bringing out the richness of the brass inlays of the floor and walls. The day seems to reset itself, with the yoga studio becoming a beguiling beacon of light , beckoning people in the main lawn to come inside.

Koregaon Park Residence
8000 sq ft | completed | Pune, India
This 8,000 sq ft luxury residential project with bespoke light fixtures was conceived to be a space that celebrated the art of living. Custom made chandeliers and french crystal pendants add an element of drama.
The copper turrets at the entrance of each room were conceived as full height lamps, which can be inhabited. Carving out warm circular pools of light at the threshold, suddenly the quotidian act of entering a room is transformed into one of reflection and celebration.
Each turret has carved slits to let light in and out - daylight filters in during the day and with the setting sun a warm light, similar to that of a flickering candle, flickers outwards.
Signifying the hearth of the home, the warm light from the turret spills through the carved slits and travels across the room in rose gold rectangular slices. These seem to increase in intensity and color as the sun sets. The copper material for the turret and the color temperature of the light within was carefully chosen to evoke the coziness that comes from sitting around a bonfire.

The Blue House
1400 sq ft | completed | Mumbai, India
The residents of The Blu house experience their space as an immersive environment that completely transforms between day and night.
Studio Trace conceived of the lighting design to be a constant dialogue between natural light and artificial light.
During the day, the soft light from the northern facade windows interacts with carefully hidden accent lights to create a series of multiple reflections that capture the resident's imaginations.
Evenings are the interval, acting as the points of transformation. The electrical lights dim to let the tropical blue sunset light take over the spaces and faces upon whom it falls.
At night, the living room takes centerstage, with the space and its inhabitants dramatically transformed by chiaroscuro lighting. The private bedroom spaces are gently lit by indirect coves, becoming cozy cocoons through which to look over the city.
